Vacation Time

I am going to be taking a short vacation and will be away from the blog for a little over a week.

In the meantime, I am going to be turning the comments to moderated. So if you leave a comment and notice that it doesn’t appear right away, please be patient. When I have a chance to get online, I will be looking at the comments and posting them as soon as possible.

While I am away you might want to check out the Coalition of Crime Blogs for further reading. Each Coalition Blog is listed on the left under the heading Coalition of Crime Blogs.

I am going to say something now that I haven’t said for too long. Each and every day everyone has some chance to do a random act of kindness. It may be for a neighbor, a stranger, a co-worker, a friend, or a family member.

It doesn’t have to be a big thing (although it can be) but even something small like a smile to someone who needs it or a visit to a shut in. Take the time to do that every day. It really isn’t just for them, it makes you feel good too.

Texas Equusearch

I have been following the disappearance of Stacy Peterson pretty closely and have noticed a bit about the organization that is helping with that search. Texas Equusearch goes all over the country and helps to organize searches for missing persons. They have helped with cases that were both high profile and cases that got very little attention. They are working on the Stacy Peterson disappearance at the same time as other missing persons. They are one of those organizations that everyone takes a sigh of relief when they hear that Texas Equusearch is going to help.

Texas Equusearch uses a lot of equipment in their searches. In Stacy’s case they are using drones, planes, sonar, ATV’s and other equipment. Some of the equipment is provided by the company. Some is provided by the volunteers. But much has to be rented and it is expensive.

However, Texas Equusearch is a small non-profit and a lot of their funding comes from donations. Some of that funding is from corporations. But much of it is needed from individuals. If you can help, I ask you to go to their website and check it out. Then consider making a donation of whatever amount you can.

Why? Because when it comes to missing persons, there are very few organizations that families can turn to. And we need those resources not just for this case, but for all missing persons.

Texas Equasearch

Then click on the link for donations. Thank you.

“She’s Just Missing”

Relatives say that Stacy Peterson, 23, was just 17 when she met Drew Peterson, 53, at the hotel she was working at. He was reportedly 47 years old at the time. He helped her to get a job with a police department and the two began dating. At least one relative has said that he told Stacy that he had never been married before. In the subsequent 6 years, Stacy and Drew Peterson have married, had two children (ages 2 and 4) and she began college in a pre-nursing program. Stacy had also adopted Drew Peterson’s children from a previous relationship.

Relatives also say that she was a sweet and caring person, and that she kept in contact with her family. And that she was a loving mother. Relatives have also said that in recent years she seemed to be unhappy in her marriage and complained that her husband was controlling. The relative also said that Stacy told her that her husband frequently asked her if she was seeing another man.

“She was very stressed in her relationship with Drew,” “She was on anti-depressants, and she couldn’t even sleep at night. When I saw her this last time [in October], she was having a very hard time coping with her life. She just looked lost and confused.”

”She just wanted people to know she was unhappy, and she didn’t like how she was being treated,” ”In case she disappeared — if something bad happened to her.”

Drew Peterson apparently had been married before. Apparently he had been married three times before. Apparently he was still married to Kathleen Savio when he met and began dating Stacy. And Kathleen’s relatives say that during the marriage Kathleen had received letters telling her that Drew Peterson was cheating on her. But when she confronted him about it, he allegedly beat her. One relative has stated they had to take her to the hospital after one beating in the late ’90’s. But they say she was afraid to leave him. In 2002 Kathleen Savio filed for a protection order against Drew Peterson and in 2003, she filed for divorce after learning that Stacy was pregnant with Drew Peterson’s baby.

That divorce was final but the property settlement was still in the process when Kathleen Savio was found dead in her bathtub. The death was investigated by state police, because Drew Peterson was a police officer in that jurisdiction and the state police did the investigation in order to avoid any conflict of interest. Kathleen Savio’s death was ruled an accident, but her relatives have reportedly wondered how a healthy 40 year old woman could drown in a bathtub.

Drew Peterson says that Stacy Peterson had changed after her sister’s death from cancer last year.

“Ever since then, Stacy has been different,” “There’s been mood issues. She’s been under the care of a psychiatrist.”

He talked to media about Stacy’s disappearance and has said that

“I find that very unusual,” “She’s a very good mom. For the last year or so, she’s been very short-tempered, snapping on everyone, but still a good mom.”

“I believe she’s with someone else, but I believe she’s safe.”

“She’s just missing,”

Last Sunday morning Stacy Peterson had plans to help a relative paint. But relatives say she never arrived. Peterson says she did leave their home then he received a call from her about 9 pm on Sunday and didn’t know where she was calling from. He has said he doesn’t believe there is any foul play and that she left home voluntarily. He has also reportedly said she took extra clothing with her. The Peterson’s had been married for 4 years and Peterson has said that he thought their marriage was good, but admitted that she may not have thought so. According to one report Peterson has told police that he found the car that Stacy was driving at a local airport. The camera at the airport is a web cam and does not record. And the airport has no tower and does not keep records of any flights.

After trying to reach her all day on Sunday when she didn’t show up to paint, relatives reported her missing about 4 am on Monday. They are concerned and say they do not believe that she would leave her children.

Police say that they have not found any evidence of foul play, and that Peterson has been cooperative in the investigation of his wife’s disappearance. However they are searching for some indication of what happened to Stacy Peterson and a search warrant has been executed on the home that Drew Peterson and Stacy Peterson shared as well as two vehicles. The latest reports indicate that some items were taken into evidence. Cadaver dogs were also used at the residence and a pond was searched. They have not called Peterson a suspect of any crime. The DA has announced that he is pulling the files on the death of Kathleen Savio in order to review it with fresh eyes. The current DA was not in office at the time of Kathleen Savio’s death.

According to family Stacy Peterson was in fear for her life before she disappeared. They also say that she had asked Drew Peterson for a divorce. The Peterson’s were in marriage counseling. According to Stacy’s family Peterson

“was a very jealous, very controlling person,” “He followed her. He tracked her with GPS on her cell phone, called her constantly.”

And the family says that Stacy kept a diary in which she documented their arguements. Family is offering a reward for information leading to Stacy’s wherebouts.

Media indicates that Drew Peterson is licensed to fly planes, but the airport manager says that there are no records to indicate that he had used that airport.

According to the sister, Stacy Peterson had made plans with a friend of the sister to paint a house, and the sister wasn’t aware of it but they planned for her to help paint also. On Sun. about 10:15 am the friend spoke with Stacy and they put off the painting until the sister woke up.

Stacy’s sister went visiting and wasn’t aware of the plans. She was expecting a call from Stacy and when Stacy didn’t call her she tried to Stacy at about 1:30 pm. No answer on her cell phone so the sister called the Peterson home and spoke with one of the older children. The child said that Stacy had gone to visit their Grandpa, but according to the sister she never arrived there.

Later that night, the sister went to the home and knocked on the door. The older child answered the door and the two talked for a bit. He told her that he was home alone with the younger children. And he told her that his parents had argued earlier in the day. At about 11 pm the sister called Drew Peterson and Peterson told her that her sister left him and he had been out looking for her all day.

Stacy Ann Peterson website

Drew Peterson has denied that his marriage to Stacy Peterson is abusive. The family of Kathleen Savio has described some of the abuse she suffered with Peterson. And Stacy Peterson’s family has talked about Peterson’s controlling ways. Stacy Peterson exchanged some emails recently with a friend who had once dated her sister. And in those emails, Stacy Peterson herself described her marriage. The email was dated Oct. 17:

“i have been arguing quite a bit w/my husband,”

“as i mature with age i am finding that the relationship i am in is controlling, manipulative and some what abusive,”  “. . . tomorrow is our 4 year anniversary and I am not as excited as the years that have past.

“. . . if you could keep me in your prayers i could use some wisdom, protection, and strength.”

Family is still conducting searches, but so far have found no sign of Stacy Peterson.

This article discusses the missing persons in Chicago, and names some of them and their fates. Nailah Franklin, Alma Mendez, and Lisa Stebic have been missing, some of the have been found dead. But no one has yet to be charged in their murders or disappearances.

The article also discusses that though some may be stranger involved:

More often than not, however, it turns out the missing woman was killed by someone with whom she had a personal relationship.

How do police find the missing?

Reward has increased to $25,000. Texas Equasearch is going to join the search. Craig Stebic, another husband with a missing wife has publicly sent his support to Drew Peterson. One article has a breakdown of the events immediately preceding and imediately after the disappearance of Stacy Peterson, by the sister. More info about the marriage and death of Kathleen Savio.

Family photo gallery including more pictures of Stacy, her husband, her children and two of her sisters.

An interview with Drew Peterson written for the Chicago Tribune has been posted at

I have just spoken with someone who has been at the scene in Chicago. The family has been passing out flyers and people have been helping by printing them on their computers. Tim from Equasearch is now entering the search and has made a new layout for the flyers. Family is in need of help in getting the new flyers with the correct infomation printed. The layout can be obtained at Kinko’s and the flyers can be dropped off at:

Westbrook Christian Church

1175 Lilly Cashe Lane

Bollingbrook, IL

Tim from Equasearch will be searching tomorrow. Volunteers for the searchs and admin purposes are needed. If you live in the area and can help it will be greatly appreciated! Volunteers will also be meeting at the church.

They say that sometimes just a little bit of information can solve a crime. If you have a little bit of information, please make contact with the police department or Tim from Equasearch. And remember there is a reward for information that leads to the location of Stacy Ann Peterson. I believe the reward is up to $25,ooo now.

Yesterday about 40 people took the time out of their lives to help a family look for Stacy Peterson. And I hear the family are very appreciative of those who did. But more are needed. The more volunteers, the bigger the area they can cover and the more throughly they can cover it. So if you live in Chicago, please. Take the time. Show up at the church and say I want to help. They need volunteers for admin as well as for searching. They need food and water for the volunteers. And they need boats, horses and ATVs. Please help.

There’s a New Crime ‘Roll in Town

There is a new crime blogroll in town. I am now a proud member of the Coalition of Crime Blogs. The CCB has some advantages. We have a public forum that anyone can join. And you can get a ‘badge’ for your own blog to show that you are a reader of the CCB blogs.

The forum is three tiered. Anyone can join as a member. Crime bloggers who wish to join the ‘roll can request blogger membership. And the third tier is the managers group, where we discussed setting up the blogroll, LOL.

Have you ever thought about becoming a crime blogger but didn’t know if you could? You get a personal page at this forum where you can practice. If you decide to begin a blog, members there can offer advice to get you started. Or maybe you don’t want to blog- but do occasionally like a way to show a crime article that has caught your attention. Maybe you just want to read or maybe you have a crime article that you want to bring to the bloggers attention. There is a section on the new forum where crime news will be posted. (I use it to post non-DV crimes that have caught my attention.)

You do need to join the forum to post, but joining is easy. And you get to make new friend’s :D.

So check out the forum and check out the new blogroll that I am adding on the left.

Coalition of Crime Bloggers

The story behind the story

This may at first glance appear to be off topic for this blog. But this blog is about the home, and things that
affect the home are really not off topic.

Most of the blog readers know that our own LiLO tracks crime news stories involving the abuse, esp the sexual abuse of children. In the process she has found and dissemination information about an admitted pedophile named Lindsay Ashford.

Lindsay Ashford has openly admitted he is a pedophile. And he operates a website in which he discusses his views. And he also has sections designed to be attractive to little girls where he attempts to explain and justify his views to little children, and a section devoted to missing and murdered little girls- many of whom have been thought to be missing or murdered due to pedophiles.

Even though he does not live in the USA, Lindsay Ashford is openly critical of American laws and politics. He whines about laws which are against what he stands for. And he is critical of the American politicians who are against his views point that that sexual abuse of children should be legal.

This year Ashford came up with a new system to determine who should get votes for president. He has proposed that the next president should be chosen based not on their views, their ability to lead, their performance or even their sympathy to his ’cause’. But based solely on the appearance of their little girls.

LiLO became concerned. And well, if you know LiLO when she is concerned- she writes. On June 26,06 she posted about her concerns in A Whole Different System for Voting in 2008 .

And she did not stop there, she also made contact with the candidate’s offices to inform them of her findings and her concerns.

On 2/11/07 she talked about the results of her concern in This is not about politics…. and again on 2/27/07 Ashford… what a creep

You will find part of the story in the New York Daily News. But now you know the story behind the story.

It’s called Snap

There is a new feature on the blog. It is called Snap

If you aren’t familiar with it, when you let your mouse hover over a link and it will show you what the home page of the site looks like. It works on both the post links and the blogroll links. I am a very visual person and I like it especially on the blogroll links.

The links are still clickable, and will still take you to the page that was linked (not necessarily to the homepage.)

Give me you feedback on how you feel about the new feature.

Carnival of the True Crime Blogs LI

It is tradition that every week the authors of the True Crime Blogs gather together and display their work. It may be the article that has brought the most attention, or the article that touched us the most, the article we feel deserves the most attention or even the article that we feel represents the best of our writing that week. For whatever reason we may have submitted it, they are all very much worth the read.

So from the best and the brightest may I present to you, the Carnival.

First up we have Crime Rant, a very lively blog. You will find some of the most outrageous and controversial cases there. And for their first time in the Carnival they are presenting one of the most infamous of the domestic violence cases, the never legally solved Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman murder case, and the book by OJ Simpson that has brought it forefront in the news again. OJ At The Top Of His Shame (Just a hint, that is the first in a five part series of posts on the book, be sure to take a look at the others). And while you are there, you may want to express your views on Nancy Grace, by completing the poll or commenting on her post.

When I want to find out more information about a serial case, Crime Scene Blog is usually where I check first. This week’s entry from CSB is about a serial rapist. The rapist is still on the loose and CSB has the description on him. Not just height and weight, CSB has almost everything on him except what he had for breakfast. So click over and see if recognize him from somewhere in your daily routine. He has his sketch and a picture of the vehicle. Serial Rapist Stalks Northern California.

When I want to keep up on sex offenders, esp. child sex offenders- who has been caught and what the courts are doing about it I turn to Lost In Lima Ohio. The week she has another wanted rapist. But this is a child rapist. Not only that, law enforcement had him in custody once. Find out how he got out and why they are looking for him again in Roy Sawyer, 49, Child Rapist Wanted.

Next we have My Life of Crime telling the complicated story of a kidnapping and rape- with a twist. There is a murder involved, but it wasn’t the rape victim who was killed. Rape and Murder in Salt Lake City, Utah. Find out what happened.

And next we have The Trenchcoat Chronicles. Let me tell you a little about Trench. He is credited with being the father of the crime blogs, as he began writing the  first crime blog. He has three crime blogs and he is dedicated to all three. This week’s submission is from The Trenchcoat Chronicles, a blog about school violence. And he has submitted Playing It Big. A discussion of the role media has in the reporting of school shootings, and the role that sensationalizing can play in so called “copy cat” shootings.

Then there is Harding (shaking head). Harding is from Canada it is true, but he is a very important part of our community. Canada has similar crimes to the US. But they have their own set of infamous crimes and criminals. Harding has gone a little bit tongue in cheek this week (or a little bonkers, I can’t tell which- kidding Harding, just kidding :D). He has a spoof up on OJ’s book, but connects it to one of their infamous criminals. If I Killed Karla, How I’d Do It.  Hey, True Crime Bloggers have to have a little fun too. Now if True Crime isn’t  your favorite reading maybe you will want to check out Harding’s Death City. A bit of a medical thriller, a bit of a catastrophic thriller, it’s so riveting you have to keep telling yourself it is fiction. His post this week is Repent! But if you want to start at the beginning click here. Better than a book, because the people reading are joining in, adding their comments and making it seem even more real.            By the way, I always forget to mention, Harding does our graphics for the carnivals, a service for which we are profoundly grateful- my tardiness in acknowlegement not withstanding.

Another one who has been on the blogroll, but is new to the Carnival is Missing and Murdered Children. This is one of the places I go when I am looking for more information on a child murder or abduction. She has submitted Christine & James Osborne Denied Parole. You’ve read about abused children, you’ve read about children who have been caged by their alleged parents. But what happens after conviction, after their imprisonment? She is bringing us up to date on one. Take your tissues, because though this child lived you will probably find some tears in your eyes. No one should be subjected to this, let alone a child.

The stories I have listed here are of course only single posts. Each blog has many more posts up, and many more discussions going on. So when you visit, you may want to check to see what they have on the front page. And as always on blogs check out the comments- many times more information gets passed there. And hey, we are bloggers- we always welcome comments. 🙂

This is just some of the examples of True Crime Bloggers. As always you will find the True Crime Blogroll on the left and I am sure you will find blogs you like.

And remember, Commit a Random Act of Kindness Today.

Some couples love (or lust) each other

We cover a lot of serious topics here. Murder, child abuse, a lot of postings could make you cry. But every now and then you just have to lighten up!

Not every relationship ends in murder. Some couples remain together all their lives. Some couples peacefully end a relationship or marriage, and some couples just kind of drift apart.

This is about a couple who are devoted. Really, really seriously into each other. I mean really into each other.

A police officer spends a lot of their time in routine patrol. They drive around, watch for signs of criminal activity, watch people, and are probably pretty bored much of the time. But then sometimes…….

This officer pulled into a parking lot and noted a crowd of people who appeared to watching a nearby couple. One man even walked up and took a picture of the couple with his camera phone. The officer pulls up in the cruiser and noted the couple and their movements. They didn’t appear to notice the officer and his cruiser.

Amber Mumma was reportedly leaning on the car with her hands on the roof and her pants at her ankles. Standing behind her with his pants allegedly below his buttocks was Marcelo Gonzalez. Again, it has been said they were so busily engaged in their activity, they didn’t seem to be aware of the officer.

The officer arrests them, and Gonzalez had to be threatened with a taser to get him to submit to having handcuffs on. He resisted being put in the cruiser. Inquiries were made of the female and she gave him what was later found to be a false name. Mumma was also handcuffed and put into the cruiser, and they proceeded to kiss.

Taken to the police station, the couple had to be separated, as they wanted to continue kissing while officers were trying to process them. It was determined that the sexual activity was consensual. A correct name was found for Mumma, both were charged with lewd/lavsious behavior and Mumma received an additional charge for using a false name.

The complete police report can be found at the link and is much more detailed and frank than what I have been here.

Love……. I hope somebody interviews this couple again in about 5 years, and see where they are in the relationship then.

And come on people……keep it behind the drapes or at least take it to a deserted area!

Today is a little different

This is only indirectly about violence. This is more about absent father's. Traditionally, when a couple separates, the mother most often will have the children from the marriage. Father's are usually assigned partial custody or visitation. But it is up to them whether they utilize that visitation or not. At times, the custodial parent may block the court ordered visitation. Sometimes they have reason to. Sometimes it is due more to their anger than the fitness of the other parent.

Jermaine Dixson is 21, and he is desperately looking for his father. Life has been tough for Jermaine. In 1996, he lost his 6 year old sister Cierra to AIDS. His mother Dolores Dixon, died a few months later of the same disease, it is believed that she contracted the disease from Cierra's father. His mother did not know she had AIDS until Cierra was born. Jermaine feels that his mother just gave up fighting the disease after Cierra died. Cierra had a different father than he and his sister did.

After his mother's death, Jermaine and his sister, Jessica Dixon, went to live with his mother's best friend Kathy Brinson. Recently, Jessica Dixon was killed in a random murder. She is to be buried Sat. Jermaine would like his father to be there. He believes his father should know what happened to his daughter. And he is running out of blood relatives.

Jermaine doesn't know a lot about his father. His father never signed his or his sister's birth certificates. He thinks his father's name is something like "Hollins LaFloyd.'' He knows his father was in prison, they received letters from him while he was there. Jermaine believes that LaFloyd married, and that at some point LaFloyd was arrested for kidnapping their son. That was around 1994.

''He said he didn't think we loved him because we didn't write to him in jail,'' Dixon said. "But we were kids. We didn't know how to do those things.''

Jermaine wants his father to know about him and his sister. He is desperate to make some contact.

He says that his parents met in a grocery store. And that soon after Jessica was born. Jermaine followed 2 years later. Then his father left their lives, and later  his mother met the man who gave her AIDS.

Jermaine has searched on the internet. A reporter has also checked under the name Hollins LaFloyd and many variations. They have looked in local, state or federal criminal justice databases and other public records and have been unable to locate him.

Jermaine would like his father beside  him at his sister's funeral.

She liked being married

Either she liked being married or she just liked getting married.

Julia Bish, 33, was due in court today. No, she didn't kill her husband. She seems to have liked husbands. She had three or four of them.

Julia was married to Randy Bish for 14 years, and had 5 children with him. In 2002 she reportedly met someone else on the internet. She and  Lawrence Judah went to Las Vegas on a vacation trip and got married. By 2004, she had met Mark Hunt on the internet, and they took a vacation trip to Las Vegas. Yes, they also married. At some point it seems to have been determined that she failed to get divorces between marriages. So all three husbands divorced her. She was arrested for bigamy in Jan. 2005.

She was due for a pretrial conference in the court in Sept. and she failed to appear. A bench warrant was issued for her arrest. Prosecutors allege she was attempting to evade arrest, since she was found in another state. Reportedly Julia told the court that she had left the state to be with her new husband Kevin McGovern, and that she was unable to attend the pretrial conference hearing, because she had just given birth to her new daughter.

I'm laughing too hard to even comment on this one.
