Katherine MacDougall, 23, was three months pregnant. A relative became concerned about her when they could not reach her by phone and had not heard from her. They made contact with police and requested a welfare check.
Police responded to the address she reportedly shared with her boyfriend late on Sunday. There was no answer at the door and a call was put out to try to locate her or her boyfriend. After obtaining a key, they entered the home and found Katherine MacDougall. Police have said they believe she had been dead since Friday. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death. Police say there were signs of a struggle at the home. But there were no gunshots and no stab wounds.
Katherine MacDougall’s boyfriend was located a short time later. He was arrested on a charge of an open container of alcohol in a vehicle. Police have said that he has allegedly confessed to strangling his girlfriend at 7 pm on Friday.
Taylor Hurst, 24, has been charged with murder and has pleaded not guilty. He has not been charged in the death of the unborn child.
Pregnant women are more likely to die at the hands of a spouse or boyfriend than from any pregnancy complication or disease process.
