The Bystander Stopped It

Gracie Watson, 42, had some errands to do on Sunday. She stopped by a local discount store about 4 pm. A clerk says that soon after she went through the checkout and exited the store, screaming began.

Looking out to the parking lot, there was a man on top of her, repeatedly stabbing her. Some reports say she was stabbed more than a dozen times, some say 20 times. Then the man reportedly poured gasoline on her.

Witnesses in the parking lot were yelling at him and honking their horns, trying to get him to stop.  The man allegedly tried to light a match, bystanders were then able to pull the man off her and prevent him from setting her on fire. Witnesses have said a bystander held him at gunpoint and told him

“Stop, or I’m going to shoot. And if you run, I’m going to kill you”

and held the attacker at gunpoint until police arrived. Police say they would like to talk to the bystander, but they don’t know who he is or where he went.

Police identified the attacker as 42 year old Henry Watson, her husband. He has been taken into custody and probably will be charged with aggravated assault.

Gracie Watson was taken to the hospital and according to reports is in good condition.

If you are in a relationship that is getting abusive, inside yourself you know how serious he was at the time. You need to be aware that sometimes you only get the one warning…. if you are lucky enough to get a warning. Listen to your instincts. Contact a domestic violence agency, make a safety plan, and take shelter in a safe place.

The attacks can come suddenly and unexpectedly, leaving the victim with no chance to defend themselves. And the attacks can lead to harm to anyone who attempts to interfere.

Be Safe.

I want to jump up and down in excitement that outsiders actually stepped in to help save this woman!! I have nothing but the utmost praise for the vigilante who held the gun on this man until officers were able to get there. Maybe if someone would have stepped in to assist Alicia, her husband wouldn’t be in a hospital bed, but in a jail where he belongs and she would be with her children

It is a lesson to all of us isn’t it? When we see something, we can help if only we would try.
