The Rage

Police report that they were called to the home of Emilio Heredia, 40, and Carol Bloomfield, 36, on Monday at about 9:50 pm. They report they were they were contacted by a family member in regards to a domestic dispute.

When they arrived they found Carol Bloomfield and her 17 year old son Jonathon badly injured with knife wounds. Carol Bloomfield died at the scene and Jonathon later died at the hospital. (I have also seen Jonathon’s age reported as 15). Bloomfield has been described as Heredia’s live in girlfriend and as the common law wife.

Police have arrested Emilio Heredia for the murders. They have stated they believe that Heredia attacked Bloomfield first, then stabbed Jonathon when he attempted to come to his mother’s aid. Allegedly the family dog attempted to come to the family’s aid and was stabbed also, although it is said the dog will survive.

Heredia and Bloomfield had two children together who were also in the home. Ages of 2 years old and 7 months. They were not harmed and have been placed in protective custody.

Heredia has been charged with both murders, and a multiple murder specification has been added, which could mean that the death penalty is a possible sentence if he is convicted. It was reported that Heredia was also stabbed, but police say his injury was not severe enough to require hospitalization.

I have not seen where the motive or what led up to the murders, nor have I seen whether their was any history of violence.

I think what disturbs me the most about domestic violence murders is the rage. The rage is often so tremendous that not only will they attempt to murder the partner- they will often attempt to murder anyone who tries to protect, defend or shield them. In this case both the son and the family dog.

Two more children, witnessing the murder of not only their mother, but also their brother. How do you even attempt to explain to a two year old and a 7 month old, why their mother and brother are no longer present in their lives? And why their father is no longer available to them?

Pleading not guilty. Besides being charged with 2 counts of murder, he has been charged wtih 2 counts of child abuse and 1 count of animal cruelty.

Good question that I’ve asked myself and my colleagues whenever we face something like this. How in the world will these children ever fully recover from something like this is beyond me. What really enrages me is the fact that this person felt entitled to not only take 2 lives but also single handedly destroy the lives of the 2 remaining children. Thank goodness he didn’t harm them or worse however he’s done more than enough damage.
