Big Question

One question I have heard frequently is about family murders. Are they a new phenomenon or have they always been around? I was just over at CLEWS and found one of her older posts in which she addresses that issue. This is from May of 2005 which was before I began my blog, so you will have to forgive the delay in presentation. If you aren't familiar with CLEWS, it is a historic crime blog, therefore I don't think much will have changed since this post.

In the past small communities remembered the family murders, but did everything possible to prevent them from soiling the community’s communal “linen”. Thus you will not often find ready remembrance of horrific acts of any kind, unless a desire existed to vilify the perpetrator (and perhaps his family name as well).

Suicides occurred less often, but only because there were fewer means.
