Divorce is not always the end of domestic violence

Ann Baxley Smith allegedly went to the home of her ex husband Woodrow Smith, 62, Wednesday, found him working in his yard and shot him.

Woodrow told a witness that it was his wife, and asked him to call 911. Woodrow later died at a hospital.

After the shooting, Ann Smith fled the state, but was arrested at a relative's home about 24 hours later. A handgun believed to have been used in the shooting was found at another relative's home.

A neighbor thought the motive might be jealousy, 'Woody' Smith had begun another relationship. And the neighbor also said that Woody had asked him for help building a gate across his driveway, as his ex wife was mailing him letters and leaving notes at his home.

Woodrow Smith's daughter had this to say:

"She constantly harassed us, threatening phone calls, threatening to burn our house down, kill us, left messages on machines, threatening my daddy, trespassing property at his job."

Ann Smith is reported as having a criminal history, including a charge for domestic violence. She is currently charged with murder and possessing a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
