It was an Accident!

Police say that 50 year old Gary Rogers and his wife Paula were arguing around noon today. And that he gave her a shove that pushed her to the ground injuring her shoulder.

Then he told police that he had been drinking and he was cleaning his .380 caliber gun, and it accidently discharged, hitting his wife in the cheek and exiting around her nose. Police say she will need extensive plastic surgery.

When Gary called 911 about the shooting, he stated it was an accident. Police have said this was no accident.

Gary has been charged with felonious assault and domestic violence. Police are not releasing Paula's condition.

Neighbors have had a little input here. They say the arguments between the couple happened often. And they say that Paula was a nice woman. However, they said that Gary was usually mean.

Paula was heard saying she loved him, as she was being carried out of the home.

I'm having a little trouble with this one. First he shoves his wife to the ground. Then he picks up his gun to work on it, evidently forgetting to make sure it was unloaded and the chamber was empty. And I am not sure, but does a .380 have a safety button? He must have forgotten to make sure it was on. And isn't it usually discouraged for a person to handle a weapon when you've been drinking at noon? I wonder what Paula has told investigators.

She probably told them “she fell”, if her reported words (I love you) are true. Lovely……..gun……..alcohol………….abuser. (shaking my head)

That is one of the hardest parts of domestic violence to accept. Often the victims do love the abuser, and loves them to the point that they will cover for them, and stay with them, even at the cost of sacrificing themselves.

I know. 😦 I try, and try, but I don’t think I’ll ever really understand it.
