A rookie police officer and her child

Cedrick Terrell Bethel, 24, and his girlfriend Tika Jones, 21, resided in a duplex along with their child Cedrick Bthel Jr and Jones' brother Willie Jones, 22. (I have seen two articles, one says the baby was 9 months old and the other says he was 20 months old.) Other relatives lived in the other side of the duplex.

Relatives say that Bethel was jealous and controlling. Says he was constantly asking Tika where she went.

Jones had just graduated the police academy Tues and had just recently been hired by the police dept. She was waiting to be sworn in. Her father is a police officer and so is her stepmother.

Thurs. morning Willie Jones woke up to hear Jones and Bethel fighting. Bethel used a butcher knife and stabbed Tika Jones and cut his son, Cedrick. Police are not sure who was injured first. Willie attempted to break up the fight and he was stabbed also. Other relatives rushed over and called 911. It is thought that Jones did not do anything to provoke the attack.

Bethel got in his car and drove off. About 90 min. after leaving the scene, Bethel abandoned his car beside some railroad tracks. There he was hit by a train. It is believed this may have been a suicide attempt. However, he lived though he lost a leg in the incident. Police believe a wheel of the train ran over his leg.

The baby Cedric Bethel was badly hurt, they are not sure he will survive and is listed in critical condition. Tika Jones was stabbed multiple times and is listed in serious condition. Willie Jones is listed in fair condition, and reportedly was not seriously hurt.

Again the child became involved in the domestic violence.

Jealous, controlling those are themes seen often in domestic violence cases. And she had graduated the police academy and was becoming a police officer- a profession where males usually outnumber the females. Plenty of opportunity there for jealousy, even though it wouldn't have to be deserved.

Baby Cedrick may not survive. If he doesn't there will be a grieving family. If he does, he will always carry the scars from his father's attack on him. Tika, the mother is in the hospital also, and has her own wounds to deal with. And if she is a typical mother, she is more worried about the baby.

Tika's brother Willie, jumped in to fight for his sister. Likely he could be called a hero in this, because without his intervention his sister may not have survived to get to the hospital. And he did all he could for his nephew.

Oh, yeah- Cedric Sr. Failed in his suicide attempt. Failed in his relationship. Lost his leg. Likely will be standing trial when he gets out of the hospital. Possibly will lose his namesake. I wonder if he has asked about little Cedrick and Tika.

Tika Jones is now in guarded condition and has been asking to see her son. She has a tube in her throat and can only communicate in writing. Willie Jones has been released from the hospital.

20 month old Cedrick Bethel is still in critical condition.

THANKS FOR THE FOLLOW UP ON THIS STORY. I KNOW THIS FAMILY PERSONALLY AND WAS CONCERNED. I MOVED AWAY FROM THE SOUTH FLORIDA ARE DUE TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE WHERE IT ESCALATED TO THE POINT I WAS AFRAID MY CHILDREN WOULD GET HURT. I ALSO MADE MORE MONEY THAN MY HUSBAND, I CONTRIBUTED TO THE HOUSEHOLD AS EXPECTED BUT AS SOON AS I MAKE A PURCHASE IT WAS ALWAYS AND ARGUMENT. I KEPT GOING BACK EVEN AFTER MY HUSBAND POINTED A GUN AT ME. THE LAST STRAW WAS WHEN MY 3 YEAR DAUGHTER BEGGED ME WHILE THE POLICE WAS THERE TO “LET’S LEAVE MOMMIE AND GO STAY WITH GRANDMA.” I DID AND HAVE NOT LOOKED BACK SINCE.

Congratulations Kimberly, that makes you a survivor. I am glad you got out successfully. You are not the only one who stayed in the situation, but I am glad you left before it was too late. Give that little girl a big kiss and hug and tell her how smart she is.

I am hoping the baby makes it. Let me know if you hear anything. I checked again today, and don't see any updates. Tika sounds like a strong woman, and it sounds as though she is doing a little better.
