They tried to stop him

Kaloey Laigh Kittiraj was three year's old. She lived with her father in a mobile home park, among other Laotians. No one is sure how Kaloey came to live with her father. He has previously been arrested for attempted 2 nd degree murder and other arrests.

It is thought that the mother may be living in another state, and that she either surrendered custody, or Kittiraj may have been awarded custody of her.

Police were called to her residence late Wed. and when they arrived they found Kittiraj beating Kaloey. They ordered him to stop. He failed to do so. They sent the police dog at him to try to stop him, but Kittiraj continued to beat her. Finally police shot him.

Kaloey was rushed to the hospital, where she died at 4:30 am on Thurs. She died of a punctured lung after being impaled on some object. Police are not sure of the motive as yet. But they are theorizing it may have been some bizarre ritual for Kittiraj. They have said that there have been some rumors of voodoo, but that is preliminary and hearsay at this point.

The officer who fired the shot has been put on paid administrative leave and an internal investigation is being done of the shooting. This is routine after a police shooting and police are not expecting to find any wrongdoing on the part of the police officers.

First, there is no indication if any investigation is going to be done on how the father came to have custody of the child. Most children's services and courts will not award custody of a child to someone with a violent criminal history.

And with a beating and murder this vicious and bloody, you have to wonder if this was the first beating she had received at her father's hands. Many times in a community, neighbors seem reluctant to report the abuse of a child. This seems to be especially true in an immigrant community.

Many times a shooting will have psychological repercussions on a police officer. Even though this shooting was in defense of a child, many officers will use their gun instinctively, but will suffer problems later. And in this situation, where they saw the child being beaten, they fired in defense of the child, yet were too late to save her, it is going to be difficult.

Many are going to condemn this as part of the immigrant problem. But unfortunately, child abuse is not limited to the immigrant community.

April is Child Abuse Awareness Month ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Prosecutors have determined that the shooting was justified and the deputy is cleared to return to work. More details about the shooting.

Is it inhuman of me to be thankful that the police took care of the problem, when they did? That poor baby!

Not inhuman, no. The police seemed to have done all they could do.

Let me sum this story up for you because it seems to be completely out of whack. First of all, i would like to say this little girl was family to me. She was like my daughter. She lived with her father and her fathers girlfriend, whom had taken over the role as her mother. Her birth mother signed over custody of her to the grandparents when she decided she didnt want a biracial baby. She was around a year old at the time if im not mistaken. The fathers girlfriend, who is wonderful by the way, and loved that little girl more than anything, took very good care of her. On the day all of this happened, my sister who lived a couple of houses over from them, stated that he seemed to be possessed when he showed up at her door. She said his eyes were black. He then reportedly went to his fathers house and started beating on him and then took off out the door punching his girlfriend and taking his daughter. He then left the house with his daughter in the car screaming. The entire incident took place at a friends house, not his. I wish when people would write stories they would have their facts straight. Noone ever expected this to happen. It was a horrible event and very emotional for the whole family. If she would have ever been hit before this incident, someone would have known about it. The girlfriend, her mother, would have NEVER let that happen and neither would have my sister. Our baby girl would be six now. God bless you, my angel, and we will see you again one day.

Yes Shannon, so true. But surely your comment is not meant to lessen his actions by saying he was temporarily possessed. Lest not forget that he was able to puncture her lung by sticking a broken broomstick so far up her rectum that it was the “object” that punctured that beautiful babys lung. Only after this did he beat her lifeless body up against a tree as if she were a dirty rug bieng cleansed of dust. The officers in this case were completely justified in their actions, and still to this day deeply haunted by the actions of this man that they had to witness. They will forever in my minds be deemed as nothing less than true heroes!
